Branding Akwan was not just a creative exercise. It was a deeply interactive and empathetic journey. At every stage, we committed to seeing the world through the eyes of the very people Akwan was created for: mothers and children navigating their relationship with the Arabic language.
A large portion of our time was dedicated to interviews with families. We spoke to mothers who wanted their children to embrace Arabic without fear or pressure, and to children who felt vulnerable or even defeated in traditional language-learning settings. These conversations were raw, emotional, and formative. They helped us understand that the brand needed to carry comfort, not just creativity.
We also experimented with tactile mediums like crayons, pencil colors, and colored paper. We let our hands follow the freedom kids naturally express when they create. We paid close attention to the strokes and forms that emerged from children’s drawings. The way they imagined worlds, connected shapes, and interpreted letters gave us clues for how to build a visual language that felt intuitive and familiar to them.
Our approach was rooted in observation, interaction, and play. By entering their world instead of asking them to enter ours, we were able to shape a brand that didn’t just speak to them. It spoke like them.
AKWAN sparks curiosity and confidence in children who might otherwise find Arabic learning intimidating or boring. Its fun, approachable branding and founder-led storytelling resonate especially with English-first mothers who want to reconnect their kids with their mother tongue in a safe and joyful way. .
